Station Road and Main Street Pedestrian Improvement Project

The Station Road and Main Street Pedestrian Improvement project is set to start on May 4. The project is broken up into two parts. The Station Road sidewalk portion involves the construction of a new sidewalk along the south side of Station Road from Woodbine Road to and through the Aqueduct tunnel. The Main Street portion of the project involves the construction of ADA-compliant curb ramps and crosswalk extensions at each intersection from Grinnell Street to Buckhout Street.

Construction at Station Road will get underway starting May 4 and is expected to last until the end of June. While the contractor could start construction activities each day at 7:00 a.m., they have agreed to delay their daily start to 8:00 a.m. The construction will require the closure of Station Road to through traffic at Aqueduct tunnel during this time period. Area residents will have full access to their homes from South Buckhout Street on to Station Road. Emergency and other services such as garbage pickup will be uninterrupted. 

Main Street construction is expected to start in July and will continue into the fall. Additional details will be available as construction approaches. 

Using guidance from New York State, construction work on government projects can continue. The contractor is required to take all necessary measures to achieve proper social distancing and use of personal protective equipment such as face coverings. The contractor is also required to minimize dust from their activities and the Village has prohibited them from using leaf blowers. The Village’s Resident Engineer will monitor all aspects of the construction, including the health and safety plan.
