What Requires a Permit?
Fences
All new fences will need a permit, including any changes of style or location of existing fences. Please refer to the Architectural Review Board (ARB) requirements for the application requirements.

Patios/Walks
All new patios and walks are considered coverage. Increases in coverage require Site Development Plan Approval or a waiver granted from the Irvington Planning Board. Once an approval or waiver is granted, an application to the ARB is required.

Sheds
Sheds are considered structures and require Site Development Plan Approval or a waiver granted from the Irvington Planning Board. Once an approval or waiver is granted, an application to the ARB is required.

Exterior Elevation Changes
All exterior elevation changes not increasing or changing coverage, Floor/Area Ratio (FAR), or cubic content under a roof, require an application to the ARB.   Please refer to the Architectural Review Board (ARB) requirements for application.

Electrical Improvements
All electrical improvements require an application for an electrical permit from a Westchester County licensed contractor.

Plumbing Improvements
All plumbing improvements require an application for a plumbing permit from a Westchester County licensed contractor.

Interior Alterations
Interior alterations removing or relocating any structure or that creates new space requires a Building Permit Application with drawings that meet all current New York State Code requirements.

Signs
Signs in the Business Zone require ARB approval prior to installation. Temporary signs are not permitted.

Change of Use/Occupancy
Any changes of use or occupancy to any existing space in the Business or Industrial districts is required to file a Change of Use/Occupancy with the Building Department prior to occupying a space.

Additions
All additions must apply for Site Development Approval or Waiver from the Irvington Planning Board. Once an approval or waiver is granted, an application to the ARB is required.

Decks
All alterations and enlargement to existing decks or new decks are required to follow the procedure for Site Development Approval or Waiver from the Irvington Planning Board. Once an approval or waiver is granted, an application to the ARB is required.

Pools
All pools must apply for Site Development Approval or Waiver from the Irvington Planning Board. Once an approval or waiver is granted, an application to the ARB is required.
