I have a few announcements covering a variety of topics.  I deliberately avoided sending these announcements to you yesterday (April Fool’s Day), because I didn’t want you to wonder whether they were real or not.  Just for the record, these are real…

Main Street Gas Leak

Con Edison was hard at work yesterday making final repairs on the gas leak in the lower Main Street area.  I understand that there were reports of a gas smell over the weekend, but Con Edison has advised us that the temporary repair that they made last week slowed the leak down but did not stop it 100%.  We expect the permanent repairs to stop the leak completely.

Curb Replacement

A contractor working for our Department of Public Works will be replacing curbs along certain portions of East Sunnyside Lane starting Thursday, April 3, 2014.  We have taken steps to coordinate this work with Irvington School buses to ease the morning rush to school.  However, East Sunnyside Lane is an extremely narrow road and a difficult place for the contractor to work.  Please avoid traveling in this area if possible until the curb work is complete.  We expect the work in this area to be completed by Friday, April 4, 2014.  Curbs will also be replaced along a portion of Riverview Road, although no delays are expected during construction on that road.

Hydrant Flushing

The Irvington Water Department will begin flushing hydrants on Monday night, April 7, 2014.  An updated schedule will be posted on the Village web site (www.irvingtonny.gov).  The schedule may need to be adjusted depending on weather or other circumstances.

Did you ever wonder why it is necessary to flush hydrants?  We flush all hydrants twice each year to test the hydrants to make sure adequate flow and pressure is available in case of an emergency.  We also flush them to help remove sediment that can build up over time in the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality throughout our distribution system.
