Westchester Power: Our Community. Our Choice

The Village of Irvington is participating in a program, known as Westchester Power, to help our residents have more predicable electric rates and to use more renewable resources. Since 1998, New York electric customers have had the ability to choose their electric suppliers. However, understanding the marketplace for electric supply can be quite confusing. In fact, only about one-quarter of our residents have actually made the choice to switch to an alternate supplier. A full 75% of our residents have remained with Con Edison as their “default” electric supplier at a price that can fluctuate significantly.

The Board of Trustees joined with nearly 2 dozen other communities in Westchester to select a two-year, fixed-price contract for renewable energy for a majority of our village customers.

While the Con Edison default rate can fluctuate significantly, the default Westchester Power rate is fixed. The Westchester Power web site contains an historical comparison of rates.
