Statement on Tolerance

On November 21, 2016, Mayor Smith read the following statement on behalf of the Board of Trustees:

Irvington has always prided itself on being a welcoming and safe place for residents and visitors of all races, religions, orientations and countries of origins. It seems there are many in our nation who are not currently feeling welcome nor safe. We want everyone to know that the Irvington Board of Trustees will never tolerate discrimination of any kind in our Village. While we are not aware of any recent acts of intolerance in Irvington, we would like to publically denounce all such acts that seem to be occurring with more frequency in New York and our nation. These repulsive acts go against everything we stand for as a Village and a nation.

If anyone witness any form of discrimination or intimidation do not hesitate to immediately call our police department at 591-8080 or contact me or any of my fellow board members. Thank you.

Mayor Smith then paraphrased the statement of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. View Governor Cuomo's statement.
