[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Information

In light of the impending snow storm, we have some important information for residents:

OFFICE CLOSURES
Village Hall and Recreation offices closed at 3 p.m. today and will be closed Tuesday 1/27.
Irvington Public Library closed at noon today and will be closed Tuesday 1/27.
No decisions have been made about Wednesday 1/28.

GARBAGE AND RECYCLING PICKUP
Regular garbage pickup today.
Garbage pickup cancelled for Tuesday 1/27 and Thursday 1/29.
Recycling pickup cancelled for Wednesday 1/28.
Note: This means each route is scheduled to have one pickup.

POWER PROBLEMS
Please report all power outages or downed wires directly to Con Edison at www.coned.com or 1-800-75-CONED. Do not call the Irvington Police Department with power outage reports. However, if there are live wires down, this is an emergency and you should call the police department. In case of extended power outages, the Village is preparing plans for warming shelters.

SNOW REMOVAL
Residents that live adjacent to a sidewalk must remove snow from the sidewalk. For Main Street residents, the snow must be removed by 9am and 4pm each day. For other areas, the snow must be removed within 12 hours after the end of the storm. However, if a snow emergency is declared, these requires are suspended until the emergency is lifted. That being said, due to the large amount of snow that is predicted, it is highly recommended that property owners try to keep up with removing the snow to avoid icing in the very cold weather, making removal virtually impossible.

Although it is not required by law, it would be quite helpful if residents dug out a nearby fire hydrant to help reduce any delay in the Fire Department’s response time.

Please do not plow or shovel snow into the roadway.

TRAVEL
The Irvington Police Department urges all residents to avoid any unnecessary travel after 4pm tonight. Conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly after dark. Please stay out of the way to allow our first responders and public works crews to do their job as safely and efficiently as possible. Additionally, Westchester County has canceled all Beeline bus service and para-transit transportation for Tuesday January 26th. Metro North Railroad has not announced any scheduled changes yet but you should monitor their website at www.mta.info for up to date information.
