In light of the impending snow storm, we have some important information for residents:
STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED
Mayor Brian Smith has declared a State of Emergency effective 9pm tonight. In connection with this declaration, Mayor Smith issued an emergency order restricting travel on all roads throughout the Village. Only emergency vehicles are permitted to travel starting 9pm tonight and continuing indefinitely. Please note that Gov. Cuomo has also implemented a travel ban, effective 11pm, applicable to all roads in the 13 counties affected by the storm, including Westchester. By avoiding travel, emergency responders and public works crews will be able to do their jobs as safely and efficiently as possible.
Village Hall and Recreation offices closed at 3 p.m. today and will be closed Tuesday 1/27.
Irvington Public Library closed at noon today and will be closed Tuesday 1/27.
No decisions have been made about Wednesday 1/28.
GARBAGE AND RECYCLING PICKUP
Regular garbage pickup today.
Garbage pickup cancelled for Tuesday 1/27 and Thursday 1/29.
Recycling pickup cancelled for Wednesday 1/28.
Note: This means each route is scheduled to have one pickup.
Please report all power outages or downed wires directly to Con Edison at www.coned.com or 1-800-75-CONED. Do not call the Irvington Police Department with power outage reports. However, if there are live wires down, this is an emergency and you should call the police department. In case of extended power outages, the Village is preparing plans for warming shelters.
Residents that live adjacent to a sidewalk must remove snow from the sidewalk. For Main Street residents, the snow must be removed by 9am and 4pm each day. For other areas, the snow must be removed within 12 hours after the end of the storm. However, if a snow emergency is declared, these requires are suspended until the emergency is lifted. That being said, due to the large amount of snow that is predicted, it is highly recommended that property owners try to keep up with removing the snow to avoid icing in the very cold weather, making removal virtually impossible.
Although it is not required by law, it would be quite helpful if residents dug out a nearby fire hydrant to help reduce any delay in the Fire Department’s response time.
Please do not plow or shovel snow into the roadway.
All travel is banned on Irvington roads after 9pm tonight and continuing indefinitely. Please stay out of the way to allow our first responders and public works crews to do their job as safely and efficiently as possible. Additionally, Westchester County has canceled all Beeline bus service and para-transit transportation for Tuesday January 26th. Metro North Railroad has announced a shutdown of all operations at 11pm. Monitor their website at www.mta.info for up to date information.
