[ARCHIVED] From the Mayor’s Desk…December 1, 2015

The Holidays are Upon Us

With Thanksgiving behind us, it’s now time to look forward to the remainder of the holiday season, most notably Christmas and Chanukah. Although there are many shopping alternatives in nearby cities, I encourage you to shop locally at one of our many Main Street businesses. Clothing, jewelry, wine, and great food are just some of the many items that you will find readily without straying far from home.

Irvington Seniors Holiday Boutique

If beautiful handmade, original gifts are more your speed, then the Irvington Senior Center in Scenic Hudson Park is the place to go. This Saturday, December 5th, from 10:00am to 3:00pm, stop by for some handmade knit items, crafts, decorations, and other unique gifts.

Annie Jr.

On the main stage at the Irvington Town Hall Theater is the Clocktower Players Kids Troupe presentation of Annie Jr. Performances will take place on both Saturday December 5th and Sunday, December 6th at 12:30pm. You bet your bottom dollar you will love it! Tickets: www.irvingtontheater.com

Irvington PTSA Winter Festival

Also this Saturday, the Irvington PTSA will be holding its Winter Festival. The Festival is set to take place from 1:00pm to 4:30pm at the Main Street School and will feature gingerbread house decorating, cookie decorating, and crafts! More information can be found at www.irvingtonnyptsa.org

Holiday Tree Lighting

The Village’s holiday tree lighting caps off a very busy Saturday. The holiday music celebration begins at 4:30pm at the I.K. Benjamin Community Center (71 Main Street) with the tree lighting at 5:00pm followed by more music and refreshments courtesy of the Irvington Fire Company.

Chanukah Village Comes to Main Street

Continuing with a tradition started last year, I am happy to report that the Chanukah Village sponsored by Chabad of the Rivertowns is back in Irvington again. The celebration takes place on Sunday, December 6th starting at 1:00pm culminating in a Menorah lighting in front of the Irvington Fire House at 4pm. For more information, please visit www.chabadrt.org.

The Mayor Presents Concert

Last, but certainly not least, I want to let everyone know that I will be hosting an “Under the Covers” benefit concert at the Town Hall Theater on Saturday December 12th at 7pm. All net proceeds will go towards the Town Hall Theater’s building fund.

We are planning a festive concert featuring two great tribute bands: The Sweet Cash (Johnny Cash) and Unforgettable Fire (the U2 cover band from last year’s Rocktoberfest). Captain Lawrence Brewing Company has donated beer and Geordane’s Food World has donated food. I would like to thank my wife Keira and Theater Manager Gregory Allen for all their help putting this event together. I hope to see you all there!
