[ARCHIVED] From the Mayor's Desk.....July 13, 2017

As we enjoy the summer heat, I have just a few time-sensitive items to cover.

Comprehensive Plan Update – Public Meeting

My colleagues on the Comprehensive Plan Committee and I will be presenting, for the first time, our recommendations for updating the Village’s Comprehensive Plan tonight, July 13th at 7PM in the Trustees’ Meeting Room of Village Hall. As I have written before, the update of the Comprehensive Plan is a once in a decade opportunity to have your say in the near and mid-term future of development in the Village.     Last week we published the recommendations on the Village website.  I hope you will review them yourself, the direct link can be found here: http://www.irvingtonny.gov/DocumentCenter/View/8394

Tonight’s presentation will be the first step of many to collect resident and business feedback on the Committee’s recommendations that will eventually become the update to the Irvington Comprehensive Plan from 2003.  In the coming months, it is anticipated that input will be collected in many different ways, including comments at public meetings, written correspondence, emails, social media, and surveys.  For now, written correspondence can be sent to Lawrence Schopfer, Village Administrator, Irvington Village Hall, 85 Main Street, Irvington, NY 10533 or by email at LSchopfer@irvingtonny.gov.  Other methods of feedback will be established and communicated separately.

I would like to thank both the Comprehensive Plan Committee as well as the larger group of volunteers on the Comprehensive Plan Working Groups for their dedicated work in getting us to the recommendation stage.  However, to make this a truly successful update, we need the input of all interested residents so please consider sharing your opinions.

Volunteers Needed for World War One Monument Refurbishment

One of our local Eagle Scout candidates, Ben Hunt, has taken on the task of refurbishing the area around the World War One Monument.  The World War One Monument is located on the grounds of the Main Street School proper while the other monuments are on Main Street.

In order to help Ben achieve this worthy project, I’m pleased to share Ben’s call for volunteers to help complete the work:

I am excited to share that work on my Eagle Scout Project to beautify Irvington's World War Memorial, on the front lawn of the Main Street School, is set to begin this week! Below are the scheduled work hours and I hope to have as many of you as possible stop by to help for whatever amount of time you are available.  When you come to volunteer, please wear closed-toe shoes and bring the below items if you have them. Feel free to call my cell number below with any questions.  If I am not available, you may also call my mom Tanya Hunt's cell, (914) 588-4673.

Thank you all very much for helping make my project a success!

Sincerely,

Ben Hunt
