[ARCHIVED] Hurricane ALERT...State of Emergency

Mayor Brian Smith has declared state of emergency for the Village of tIrvington that will go into effectve 8 PM tonight (Saturday) due to Huricane Irene.

The State of Emergency status bans all vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the Village. It will remain in effect until the threat from the storm and any subsequent damage from the storm has been deemed safe. There are no planned evacuations.

It is expected that high winds will cause extensive damage to trees and power lines. Please prepare for the strong possibility of a disruption to electric service, perhaps for an extended period of time.

If you have non-emergency questions during or after the storm please call the Irvington Police Department front desk at (914) 591-8080. FOR EMERGENCIES CALL 911.

Do not touch any downed wires. For outages or to report any downed wires you may call the Irvington Police Department since Con Edison will have a liaison stationed in the Village. To call l Con Edison directly, call 1-800-75-CONED.

Residents are encouraged to use common sense and safe community practice; do not travel after 8 PM and check on your neighbors if they have a special need.

Please be patient after the storm to give the Department of Public Works and Con Edison an opportunity to clear roads and secure any downed wires.

Let's hope for a safe passing of Hurricane Irene.
