During the past month there have been several expensive vehicles reported stolen from the driveways of homes in Irvington and neighboring communities. In every instance either the ignition key or the key fob had been left within the vehicle when it was parked. The suspect(s) involved in these crimes are believed to possess a device that enables them to detect either the ignition key or key fob from within the parked vehicle, thus allowing them to easily and discreetly steal the vehicle.
Residents are urged to always lock their vehicles and remove the ignition key or the key fob from the vehicle. In addition we advise residents to keep their ignition key or key fob in a secure place inside their homes and not to store them in their garage or any outdoor key storage unit.
Additionally, residents are urged to contact the Irvington Police Department immediately should they observe or hear any suspicious activity at 914-591-8080.
