[ARCHIVED] Village Board Seeking Comments on Draft Sign Law

The Village Board has drafted a new sign law that would make significant changes to the regulations governing the installation and display of signs and awnings throughout the Village. Over the past few years, the Village Board, Irvington Business Improvement Committee, Building Inspector, Village Attorney and other interested citizens have been working hard on these revised regulations.

Among other things, the regulations are intended to better define the limitations for business establishment signs as well as provide clear standards for signage. The law provides for grandfathering of existing signs that meet the current regulations, but would require owners of signs that are non-compliant (or undocumented) to either take steps to make the sign compliant or remove the sign within 90 days of the adoption of the new sign regulations.

The purpose of the revised sign law was to enhance business on Main Street. Please review the proposed law and send any comments by July 30, 2012 to Village Administrator Lawrence Schopfer at 85 Main St., Irvington, NY 10533 or LSCHOPFER@IRVINGTONNY.GOV. A public hearing will be held prior to the adoption of the revised sign regulations, however comments are being sought well in advance of any public hearing so those comments can be reviewed and addressed as early as possible.
