While schools opened today, gas lines started to diminish somewhat and train service to the City has resumed, our return to normalcy is hindered by the fact that, as of 11:30pm on Sunday, 690 Irvington residents remained without power. Many of those without power are seniors, some battling health issues, at least one is an infant that is a week old, and all without power are cold and getting colder. I want to assure you that Village officials are aware of the outages and can imagine the frustration and hardship that a week without power can cause.
While Village officials and I personally continue to push to get Con Edison restoration crews in our Village, Con Edison continues to tell us the single most effective thing to get crews here is for their customers without power to call them directly at 1 800 75CONED or report it online at www.coned.com. In addition to those directly reported by our residents, below is a list of outages that we are reporting to Con Edison, but again, please report it yourself as well. Currently without power (not in priority order):
Field Terrace
S. Cottenet St.
Butterwood W.
Hamilton Rd.
Top of Osceola Ave.
Park Rd.
Palliser Rd.
Leafwood Terr.
Castle Rd.
24-30 Lewis Rd.
Bridge St. Properties
Two residences behind high school (Heritage Hill Rd.)
As of this morning, the Warming Shelter at the Main Street School is closed. The Library will be open today from 10am-5pm if you would like to warm up, charge your phones or other devices and get Internet service.
Many of you have asked about donating jackets, clothing and blankets to our neighbors near and far who have fared much worse than we have in Irvington. The Recreation Department is setting up a collection point at the Senior Center at 29 Bridge Street today. We will send a separate email with details.
There are so many wonderful stories of businesses and neighbors helping each other through this difficult time. I would be afraid I would miss someone if I tried to start thanking everyone individually, so I will simply say thank you all for making this time a little easier on our neighbors and for being wonderful neighbors yourselves.
