[ARCHIVED] WATER RATE INCREASE

Dear Irvington Water Department Customer:

On April 15, 2013 the Board of Trustees adopted an increase in water and sewer rates. The rate increase will be reflected on bills sent after May 31, 2013 beginning with zone 43 and the June 1st bill.

Water rates will increase by 2.9% and sewer rates (a much smaller portion of the quarterly bill) will increase by 8.5%. This rate increase is necessary to keep pace with water rate increases imposed by Irvington’s water supplier, New York City, who is increasing rates by 10.78% for the Village’s allotted consumption and increasing rates by 7.9% for usage in excess of the monthly allotted consumption.

Additionally, the increase is needed to maintain the Village’s water supply infrastructure and keep the water and sewer funds financially solvent. Prior to 2006, rates were not increased to keep up with water and operational costs resulting in a deficit which at its peak was $1,930,000. With improved efficiencies and water rate increases, the fund is on a path of financial improvement.

Specifically, water and sewer rates (if applicable) for customers inside the Village of Irvington will be as follows:

Water Rate Sewer Rate
Usage Range (per CCF) (per CCF)
Usage up to 100 CCF * $ 5.74 $0.43
Usage over 100 CCF $14.39 $1.10

* One CCF = 100 cubic feet or approximately 748 gallons

Water and sewer rates (if applicable) for customers outside the Village of Irvington will be as follows:

Water Rate Sewer Rate
Usage Range (per CCF) (per CCF)
Usage up to 100 CCF $ 9.52 $0.70
Usage over 100 CCF $23.84 $1.74

For billing inquiries, please call (914) 591-7070. For water meter related questions, the Water Department can be reached at (914) 591-7870.

Sincerely,

Brenda M. Jeselnik
Clerk-Treasurer
