[ARCHIVED] From the Mayor's Desk...December 13, 2013

How things change in a week. Last week, I was fielding questions about leaf pickup and this week I’m reminding residents about removing snow from the sidewalks. I’m also passing along some “Winter Weather Tips” that the Westchester County Health Department forwarded to all of the Mayors and Supervisors in the County.

Snow Removal Reminder

With a potentially significant snowfall upon us, I thought it would be a good time to remind you what the rules are with respect to removing snow from the sidewalk adjacent to your property.

Snow removal from sidewalk areas must be done by adjacent property owners. If you live adjacent to a sidewalk, you must remove snow according to the following schedule:
• If you live along Main Street, snow must be removed by 9am and 4pm each day.
• If you live anywhere else, snow must be removed with 12 hours after the snow stops falling.

Holiday Celebrations

Last week started out with the annual Village Menorah Lighting on December 1st . That was followed, in short order, with the Village’s Christmas Tree Lighting this past Saturday. Both celebrations were full of joy, song, and, of course, lights! I hope you have a joyous holiday season, whatever holiday you celebrate.

100 South Broadway Proposed Use

The Board of Trustees recently received a letter received from Monte Nido & Affiliates regarding their planned use of the property at 100 South Broadway as a Community Residential Facility. Specifically, they plan to use the existing house on the site for a treatment facility for individuals with eating disorders. The details will be discussed at a public hearing to be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in Village Hall. However, in the meantime, I encourage you to read their letter to better understand their request.

Affordable Housing Committee

We have set a meeting to reconvene the Irvington Affordable Housing Committee. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room of Village Hall. If you are interested, I encourage you to attend.

Happy Friday the 13th and thank you for reading my update. Please never hesitate to contact me.
