Fireworks, fireworks, fireworks...

Fireworks

The excitement is building for our annual fireworks display in Matthiessen Park this Friday, July 4th at 9:00 p.m. (or whenever it is dark enough to enjoy fireworks!) Thanks, once again, to all of those hearty souls who took the plunge into the chilly Hudson River back in April. Part of the $45,000 that was raised from the Penguin Plunge will be used to put on our fireworks display. I know I will personally enjoy replacing those sobering thoughts of jumping into icy cold water with the warmth of a summer evening surrounded by friends and family.

But first, there are a couple of important reminders. Resident park passes are required! If you have not obtained your free pass, stop by the Irvington Recreation Department at 71 Main Street between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. this week (except Friday). Also, they will have extended hours on Wednesday, July 2 until 7 p.m. Next, parking will be extremely limited, so please plan to walk if at all possible. If you must drive, please carpool. Very little parking will be available on the west side of the railroad tracks, so plan to park in the Metro-North parking lot at the Irvington Station or up the hill at the Main Street School or Immaculate Conception Church. It’s just a short stroll through our Main Street business district. Feel free to make a stop or two at one of our fine merchants along the way!
